Julia Pickard was a student at Limerick and Glasgow Schools of Art, graduating in Fine Art and Art Education in 1959, the same year that she achieved first place in Ireland for pictorial design.

She has undertaken post graduate studies at Artist’s Workshop, Toronto; Sheridan College, Oakville; and St. Michael’s Printshop St. John’s. Drawing, painting and creating objects d’art though have been part of Julia’s life for as long as she can remember. These activities were encouraged by her parents and siblings - two of whom also studied art.

In her work, Julia tries to capture moments in time and fleeting experiences because for her in life’s environment, both physical and emotional, there is always change. In her paintings she tries to reflect color and convey light, movements, and moods by being creative with the materials she uses, and expressing how she feels about the things she sees and the emotions she experiences.

Julia’s development as an artist will continue as long as she continues her work; each piece she creates continues to add to her personal artistic growth.
